How to Prepare for your session?
For your session bring
Make sure everyone has eaten. No one is happy when they’re hungry.
Have snacks and water on hand for your children just in case (and for bribes!)
Napkins to clean baby drool
Extra comb and hair ties for your children or toddler.
Toys and things to get them to look at the camera. It can be their favorite teddy bear.
You are also welcome to bring Christmas Props
Outfits: Guys look more masculine with fitted slacks, shirt, and tie or bow tie and women look more feminine with beautiful soft color flowy dresses that allow movement i.e. a maxi or midi dress, rompers, or fashion-forward outfits (no club dresses or dresses that make you feel uncomfortable I want you to feel your best ) Accessories like scarves, hats, leather jackets are always great!
*GUYS * Please leave your phone's and wallets in your car or let me carry them for you, I wouldn't want them to be a distracting factor in your images.
*Ladies* Please be sure that any tags or strings are removed from dresses :)
COORDINATE, BUT DON'T MATCH | try to choose outfits and accessories that coordinate with each other rather than look matchy-matchy
BE COMFORTABLE | my number one rule is to wear something you're comfortable in. If you don't feel great in what you're wearing, it will come through in the photos.
WHAT TO AVOID | it's best to avoid clothing that appears too trendy, anything with large patterns or colors that are super contrasty, like plaid shirts. Although they are nice, they tend to be too distracting in images.
WHAT TO STICK WITH | classic/timeless styles, colors that are somewhat neutral, and dresses for ladies. Many of my families opt for softer, muted toned colors and it photographs extremely well. Layers, a statement piece of jewelry and a nice pair of heels or shoes are great! A long, flowy dress will always photograph well and typically looks great no matter the setting. Cocktail dresses are great for a downtown session and button up shirts with jackets or sweaters are great for the guys.
HAIR + MAKEUP | time and time again, I find that my moms are most comfortable in front of the camera when they've had their hair and makeup professionally done, but if you opt to do it yourself, plan to put more makeup on than you'd usually wear. A bold lip with a bit more blush is a great way to accomplish this and false lashes are a great way to go! Always wear a powder over your makeup to set it, and also help keep it matte. Pamper yourself and get your nails done if you want :)
Gentlemen, don't forget to pamper yourself as well and think about getting a nice shave and haircut prior to the session.
Other brands to consider: Free People, Zara, Anthropologie, JCrew, Nordstrom Rack, Loft, Asos, H&M, and JCrew
*Please be on time! This is a mini session and clients will be before coming in before you and or after you and I want to give all of you my fullest attention. Please make proper considerations for traffic, hair delays, and fashion emergencies! ;) ...if you show up 10 minutes late, the session is not extended, but, rather, ends at the regularly scheduled time. Please don’t think ill of me...I just want, to be honest, in advance and let you know. I want the BEST photography experience for you and to give you the best quality images. And being on time achieves exactly this! :)
